welcome to gellan
stay • garden • art
We, the Smith family moved into Gellan Cottage in October 2018 and began developing an environmentally conscious, family cottage business that drew on our different skills, passions and experience.
stay: We pulled all our ideas together to design and construct Heron Lodge, a self-catering holiday cabin we hope creates a welcoming, comfortable and restful retreat for guests. We have been blown away by the incredible reviews guests have left us making it all so worth while.
garden: We've planted the first 10 m section of the planned 100 m of mixed native bare root hedging as part of our plan to increase biodiversity in the garden as well as increase privacy around the lodge. We're now planning more planting in and around the pond to increase the biodiversity of this area although it is already rich in insect, bird and wildlife including regular visits from the heron and very rare visits from an otter. In addition, we have plans to expand Visit Gellan's gardens, including cultivation of home produce for the development of our own brand of culinary merchandise.
art: Jane's creative practice encompasses sculpture, drawing and printmaking as well as delivering creative sessions and workshops in collaboration with fellow artists and local community groups. The "Pond reflections" project of site specific sculptures was completed in 2023 and are thematically linked by reflection, expressed at both a literal and symbolic level.
We have many future plans so please follow us on Facebook or Instagram to see them unfold.
